5.4c Statement on neurodiversity and respecting difference

Think SPACE!
  • Everyone should feel accepted for who they are.
  • We all have different needs and it is important to stress that this means we all require a different response at times.
  • An inclusive statement on neurodiversity can provide the foundations of a safe space to process information and emotions.

Please see below an example statement that you can use or adapt in your own interventions.

We want to make sure that this group is a meaningful and useful experience for everybody. In doing so, we recognise and celebrate neurodiversity within our group. This means we acknowledge that everyone thinks, learns, talks, moves their bodies, express emotions and interacts with the world differently. We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where all members feel respected, valued, and supported. We understand that we all have unique strengths and challenges and that for Neurodivergent individuals these may be more pronounced. We are dedicated to making reasonable adjustments to ensure everyone can participate fully and make their best contributions. We will work with everyone to identify how we can best support you and we encourage anyone to come to us with any needs they have as they become apparent during the time we work together. We encourage open communication and mutual respect to foster a productive group dynamic.
