Inline withe SPACE framework, practitioners will also benefit from environments that are cognisant of the sensory, communication and regulation processing and management they experience within different contexts and settings. In terms of the physical environment, employers should consider the following:
- Provide access to quiet, uninterrupted spaces
- Opportunities to work from home where appropriate
- Flexibility in relation to clothing so people can feel comfortable and focused on their work
- Meetings should include remote and/or hybrid options, be flexible in their scheduling, and embed a clear structure, movement breaks and processing time.
- Supervision is a vital part of a DAP intervention practitioner’s role. Neurodivergent practitioners said that they value flexibility, trust and constructive feedback. Supervision should be supportive, foregrounding wellbeing.
- Facilitate opportunities to develop Neurodivergent-led peer support groups that involve clients and practitioners to ensure that both workforce and delivery are enhanced.
